Zantac (Ranitidine)

Drug Uses

Zantac is intended to treat stomach acid excesses as well as small intestine ulcers. Doctor may also prescribe the medicine to treat several other conditions.

How Taken

Follow your doctor directions when taking the medicine.

- The medicine should be taken orally throughout the meal as well as before or after it.
- It is recommended to take the whole Zantac at once without chewing or crushing it.
- Do not stop the therapy in case your condition became better. It is recommended to take the medicine at the same time every day to avoid missing the doses.

Missed Dose

In case you have missed to take the medicine do it at the moment you have remembered but skip it in case it is the time of your next dosage and follow your usual schedule. You shouldn’t use double dose simultaneously.

Storage

Keep the medicine at the temperature between 59 and 77 degrees F (15 and 25 degrees C) in a cool, dry and dark place. The medicine should not be stored in the bathroom. Store it beyond the reach of children and pets.

Warnings Precautions

Do not start the therapy and consult your doctor immediately in case:

- you have allergic reaction to any of its components;
- you have such disease as porphirya.

Note:

- Avoid operating any machinery until you are aware of the medicines effect on your body.
- Taking the medicine can change the results of several lab tests. Let your doctor know beforehand concerning your Zantac therapy.
- Several lab tests may be required throughout the therapy period to check any changes of patient’s condition. Follow you doctor and lab appointments.
- The effect of the medicine on children below 1 month old is not studied yet, therefore it is recommended to use medicine with caution in patients of such age.
- Consult your doctor before taking the medicine throughout the pregnancy period. Avoid breast-feeding throughout the therapy period.

Possible Side Effects

Consult your doctor in case following side effects last for a long period of time:

- constipation; diarrhea; headache; nausea; stomach upset.

Contact you doctor at once in case you experience:

- severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue; unusual hoarseness); confusion; dark urine; fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat; fever, chills, or sore throat; hallucinations; severe or persistent headache or stomach pain; unusual bruising or bleeding; yellowing of the eyes or skin.

The medicine should be used only by the patients with corresponding prescriptions. Do not give the medicine to somebody else.
