Drug Uses

Toprol XL is intended to treat high blood pressure, chest pain and heart problems. The medicine is also permitted for use for other purposes directed by your doctor.

How Taken

Follow your doctor directions when using the medicine.

- Take the medicine in accordance with your doctor prescriptions. Avoid taking larger amounts of the medicine or for longer period of time than directed by your doctor.
- Take the medicine with water.
- A monitoring of your blood pressure is required to check the medicine effect on your organism. Avoid missing your visits to doctor.

Missed Dose

In case you have missed to take the medicine do it at the moment you have remembered but skip it in case it is the time of your next dosage and follow your usual schedule. You shouldn’t use double dose simultaneously unless the doctor advises it.

Storage

Keep the medicine at the temperature of 77 degrees F (25 degrees C). It is also permitted to keep the medicine at the temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) for a short period of time. Keep the drug in a cool, dry and dark place. The medicine should not be kept in the bathroom. Store the medicine beyond the reach of the children and pets.

Warnings Precautions

Avoid taking the medicine in case:

- you have an allergic reaction to the medicine or any of its components;
- you have bradycardia or AV block (a condition of slow heart beat rate), heart failure or very low systolic blood pressure (below the 100 mm Hg);
- you are treated by Mibefradil.

Contact you doctor at once in case you have anything of the mentioned above.

Note:

- Do not operate any machinery until you are aware of your body reaction to the medicine.
- Patients with high blood pressure can feel tired for several weeks after the therapy have started. Do not stop taking the medicine in case your condition doesn’t become better. Contact your doctor in case you experience any new symptoms.
- Do not stop taking the medicine without consulting with your doctor in case you have angina. In case your doctor will prescribe you to stop the treatment he will reduce the dosage of the medicine step by step.
- Follow your doctor recommendation to monitor your blood pressure and heart beat rate.
- Avoid taking any medication intended to treat colds and congestion along with Toprol XL without consulting your doctor.
- Taking the medicine can affect the amount of sugar in blood. In case you have diabetes – monitor your blood sugar. Diabetes patients should contact the doctor before changing the dose of diabetes drugs.
- Tell your doctor or dentist that you are treated with Toprol XL before you have any medical or dental care or surgery.
- Your doctor may appoint you to such lab tests as liver and kidney function, blood pressure, and complete blood cell counts throughout the therapy period to monitor you condition and possible side effects.
- Use the medicine with caution for treating children as the effectiveness of this medicine for children is not proved yet.
- Contact your doctor before taking the medicine throughout the pregnancy and breast-feeding periods.

Possible Side Effects

Contact you doctor in case you have:

• blurred vision; cold hands and feet; confusion; constipation; depression; diarrhea; dizziness; dry mouth/eyes; gas; hair loss; headache; heartburn; itching; lightheadedness; mild drowsiness; muscle aches; nausea; nightmares; ringing in the ears; short-term memory loss; sleeplessness; stomach pain; unusual tiredness or weakness.

Contact you doctor at once in case you have:

• severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); chest pain; fainting; pounding in the chest; swelling of the arms, hands, and feet; wheezing; yellowing of the skin or eyes.

The medicine should be used only for those patients that have corresponding prescriptions. Do not give the medicine to other people. In case your condition remains the same or gets worse contact your doctor.
