Simplicef (Cefpodoxime)
Medical application
The tablets of Simplicef are intended for the treatment of the dog skin infectious disease, which is caused by detrimental effect of:
- Staphylococcus aureus;
- Staphylococcus intermedius;
- Escherichia coli;
- Streptococcus canis (group G, hemolytic);
- Pasteurella multocida, and Proteus mirabilis.
The dosage and the application
The determination of dosage of Simplicef (cefpodoxime proxetil) tablets is 5-10 mg/kg (2.3-4.5 mg/lb) body weight. The drug should be ingested once a day with or without food. The factors of the infection nature and severity, integrity of the patient's host-defense mechanisms and the susceptibility of the
causative organisms are to take into account in the determination of the dosage. Test the infection before antimicrobial therapy beginning. Appropriate therapy is ordered in accordance of testing result.
Simplicef tablets should be applied once a day, during 5-7 days or 2-3 days after infection signs cessation, up to maximum period of 28 days. Continue the treatment of acute infection after 3-4 days of therapy if there is no any seen response.

In case of the Dose Missing
If the dose of Simplicef has been missed, you should give it as soon as possible. Skip the missing dose, if time of the next dose taking is come, whereupon you should continue regular
dosing schedule. Don’t double the dose to offset the missing.
The Storage Conditions
The temperature condition of Simplicef storage is between 39 and 86 degrees F (4 and 30 degrees C). Keep Simplicef tablets away from pets and out of reach of children.
The Intake Warnings
The drug cannot be uses for human treatment. It’s should be kept as all drugs out of reach of children. Antimicrobial drugs with cephalosporin and penicillin content can be cause of allergic reactions of individuals with heightened sensibility.
To minimize the risk of allergic reaction beginning avoid direct contact of antimicrobials, including Simplicef, with the skin and mucous membranes.
Possible Side Actions
In case of beginning of some allergic reaction (hives; shortness of breath; rash or fainting; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face), unusual bleeding or bruising, severe nausea, mucous or blood in the stool or vomiting or diarrhea you should stop the giving of Simplicef and promptly communicate with veterinarian. Not serious side actions, which can be observed, are diarrhea or mild nausea or yeast infection. Continue the treatment with Simplicef and inform your veterinarian in case of the side effect sign occurrence. Immediately notify your veterinarian bout any side effect signs.
The additional information
In case of ordering Simplicef let your veterinarian know if your pet is given other antibiotic. Maybe you will need in dosage adjusting. Underwritten drugs may also react with Simplicef.
