Drug Uses
Proventil is intended when treating asthma and preventing its symptoms. It is also can be used to treat other chest illnesses.
How Taken
The common dose prescribed for relieving asthma symptoms:
- For adult patients: 1 – 2 puffs to alleviate disease symptoms or 2 puffs in 10-15 minutes before any physical exercise.
- For children: 1 – 2 puffs to alleviate disease symptoms or … puffs in 10-15 minutes before any physical exercise.
The maximum dose throughout 24 hours is 8 puffs.
The common dosage of the medicine used in therapy treatment is 2 puffs not more that 4 time daily for both children and adult patients.
Missed Dose
In case you have missed to use the medicine do it at the moment you have remembered. In case it is the time of your next dosage use that scheduled dose. You shouldn’t use double or additional doses.
Storage
Keep the medicine at the room temperature in a dry and dark place beyond the reach of children.
Warnings Precautions
Follow your doctor directions when using the medicine.
In case you need to use you inhaler often than usual or the medicine affects not so fast contact you doctor at once. The possible reason may be the worsening of your condition, and you may require another treatment. Such situation can also occur in case you use the medicine orally or your nebuliser doesn’t work appropriately.
Using the inhaler can lead to increased wheezing. Contact your doctor at once in case you experience it. Doctor may stop your therapy and search for another treatment.
Patients suffering from severe asthma are commonly required to have blood tests to check the amount of the potassium. The reason is that low amount of the oxygen in the blood and several medicines may lead to decreased potassium amount in the blood of the patient.
Possible Side Effects
Commonly the medicine doesn’t lead to any side effects.
- However, using it can cause headache or make you feel shaky.
- It can also cause faster heartbeat that is harmless. In case you feel your heartbeat is irregular continue using the medicine and contact your doctor immediately.
- Using the medicine can cause mouth or throat irritation.
- Muscle spasms can take place in case you use the Proventil.
- Using the medicine may lead to allergic reactions.
- It can also influence on the salt balance of the patients organism.
- Such conditions as restlessness and excitability reported sometimes throughout Proventil therapy period.
More Information
Do not use the medicine along with beta-blockers, such as atenolol, propranolol or timolol as they can interfere with the Proventil and make it harder to breathe. Such situation can also occur when taking the Proventil along with eye drops containing beta-blockers, eg. used for glaucoma.
