Proscar (Finasteride)
Drug Uses
Proscar is intended to treat enlarged prostate gland (benign prostatic hyperplasia) and problems with urination, such as: weak or interrupted urinary stream, feeling that you cannot empty your bladder completely, delay or hesitation when you start to urinate, frequent urination especially at night, feeling that you must urinate right away. The medicine also decreases the need of surgery.
How Taken
Follow your doctor directions when taking the medicine.
- You can take the medicine wile meal as well as before or after it.
- Do not stop taking the medicine and in case your condition gets better. Do not forget to take the medicine.
- It is recommended to take the medicine at the same time every day.
Contact you doctor in case you have any questions concerning the use of the medicine.
Missed Dose
In case you have missed to take the medicine do it at the moment you have remembered but skip it in case it is the time of your next dosage and follow your usual schedule. You shouldn't use double dose simultaneously.
Storage
Keep the medicine at room temperature not exceeding 86 degrees F (30 degrees C). Store it in the cool, dry and dark place beyond the reach of children and pets. The medicine should not be kept in the bathroom.
Warnings Precautions
Contact you doctor and don't take the medicine in case:
- you have allergic reaction to any component of the drug.
- you are in pregnancy or breast-feeding period.
Note:
- Taking the medicine may cause decreased volume of the semen ejaculated. However it will not harm your sexual function.
- Female in pregnancy periods should avoid taking the medicine orally and handle crushed tablets as the medicine can be absorbed through the skin. In case woman is pregnant with male baby, taking the medicine can cause abnormalities of baby sex organs. Consult your doctor in case you have been in touch with the medicine.
- The medicine comes in the form of tablets covered with coat to prevent contacting with the medicine components while handling.
- The medicine is not intended to treat baldness.
- Taking the medicine can have an impact on prostate-specific antigen blood test. Tell your doctor that you are taking the medicine in case you have been PSA tested.
- Follow your appointments for lab tests to monitor your condition properly.
- Children should not use the Proscar as the effect of the medicine on children is not studied yet.
- The medicine is dangerous for human fetus. Contact your doctor in case you are pregnant. Avoid taking the medicine throughout the pregnancy and breast-feeding periods.
Possible Side Effects
Contact you doctor in case any of the following side effects remain for a long period of time or get worse:
- breast enlargement and/or tenderness; decreased sex drive; decreased volume of ejaculate; inability to have an erection.
Contact your doctor immediately in case you experience:
- severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); breast lumps, pain, or nipple discharge.
More Information
Do not give this drug to the patients that have no directions to use it. The medicine should be taken only as prescribed. Contact your doctor in case you have no effect of taking the medicine or your condition gets worse.
