Drug Uses
Prevacid is used for treating stomach and intestinal ulcers, erosive esophagitis (damage to the esophagus from stomach acid), as well as other conditions where excessive stomach acid presents. The medicine lowers the amount of the acid produced in the stomach. It is also permitted to use the medicine for other purposes not mentioned below.
How Taken
The medicine comes on the form of the capsules for oral use. The common dosage is once a day. It is permitted to take the drug while meal as well as before or after it. Follow your doctor directions when taking the drug. Swallow the whole capsule at once. In case it is difficult for you to swallow the whole capsule, you can open it and sprinkle the contents of the capsule on the applesauce and swallow it at once. Do not chew or crush the granules containing in the capsule. Do not stop therapy even in the case your condition became much better. Talk to you doctor before stopping the therapy.
Missed Dose
In case you have missed to take the medicine take it at the moment you have remembered about it and follow your regular dosage schedule.
Storage
Keep the medicine at the room temperature in a dry and cool place.
Warnings Precautions
Tell your doctor your medical history especially in case you have liver disease. You may probably need an adjustment of the medicine dosage or special monitoring throughout the therapy or you may not be able to take this drug. The impact of the medication on the human fetus is not clear that is why talk to your doctor before taking the medicine throughout pregnancy and breast-feeding periods.
Possible Side Effects
Taking the medicine can slightly lead to any serious side effects. Do not take the medicine and contact your doctor in case you have an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives). However taking the medicine can lead to such side effects as:
• diarrhea, nausea, or abdominal pain;
• dizziness; or
• headache.
In case any of theses side effects apply to you do not stop taking the medicine and contact you doctor. Contact your doctor in case you have any other side effect not mentioned above that bothers you.
