Drug Uses
Pamelor is intended to treat such condition as depression. However this drug may also be prescribed by your doctor to treat other conditions.
How Taken
Take the drug in accordance with your doctor directions.
- The drug should be taken orally throughout the meal as well as before or after it.
- Take the whole pill at once without chewing or crushing it.
- Do not stop treatment even your condition became better. Avoid miss to take the medication. Take the drug at the same time everyday it will help you to remember about it.

Drug Class and Mechanism
Pamelor is a tricyclic antidepressant. It works by increasing the activity of certain chemicals in the brain that help elevate mood.
Missed Dose
In case you have missed to take the drug do it at the moment you have remembered about it however skip it in case it is the time for your next dosage and follow your usual schedule. Avoid taking two doses simultaneously. In case you use the medication once a day before going to bed than do not take the dose you have missed at the next morning.
Storage
Keep the drug at the temperature between 59 and 77 degrees F (15 and 25 degrees C) in a cool, dry and dark place beyond the reach of children and pets. Avoid keeping the drug in the bathroom.
Warnings/Precautions
Avoid taking the drug in case:
- You have allergic reaction to any component of the drug;
- You used such drugs as furazolidone or a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) (e.g., phenelzine) throughout the last two weeks or you use astemizole, droperidol, or terfenadine;
- You have experienced heart attack recently.
Contact your doctor in case you experience any of the above mentioned conditions.
Some conditions may interact with the medication. Contact your doctor in case you experience any medical conditions, especially in case you experience any of the following conditions:
- In case you are going to become pregnant or in the pregnancy or breast-feeding period;
- In case you use any prescribed or not prescribed drugs, herbal or dietary supplements;
- In case you experience any allergic reactions to drugs, foods or other substances;
- In case you have an excess intake of the spirits or have experienced alcohol abuse;
- In case you use thyroid medicine or have experienced glaucoma, heart problems, kidney or liver problems, diabetes, seizures, the blood disease porphyria, or difficulty urinating;
- In case you have or had suicidal thoughts, bipolar disorder as well as any other mental disorders or you are experiencing electroshock therapy or are going to have any surgery.
Some drugs may interact with Pamelor. Contact you doctor in case you take any other medications, especially such as:
- Azole antifungals (eg, fluconazole), cimetidine, duloxetine, flecainide, methylphenidate, mibefradil, phenothiazines (eg, chlorpromazine), propafenone, quinidine, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) (eg, fluoxetine), or terbinafine as they may contribute to increased side effects of Pamelor;
- Arsenic, astemizole, droperidol, furazolidone, MAOIs (eg, phenelzine), pimozide, quinolone antibiotics (eg, ciprofloxacin), streptogramins (eg, dalfopristin), terfenadine, or tramadol as they may increase the possibility of the high blood pressure, heart problems as well as seizures;
- Barbiturates (eg, phenobarbital) or phenytoin as they nay contribute to low effect of the Pamelor intake;
- Anticholinergics (eg, benztropine), carbamazepine, chlorpropamide, or sympathomimetics (eg, phenylephrine) as Pamelor may increase the possibility of these drugs' side effects;
- Clonidine, guanethidine, or guanfacine as Pamelor may decrease the effect of these drugs intake.
Possible Side Effects
Contact your doctor in case you experience any of the following side effects for prolonged period of time:
- dizziness; drowsiness; dry mouth; excitement; headache; impotence; nausea; nightmares; pupil dilation; sensitivity to sunlight; sweating; tiredness; upset stomach; vomiting; weakness; weight loss or gain.
Contact your doctor at once in case you have any of the following side effects:
- severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); blurred vision or other vision changes; changes in sex drive; chest pain; confusion; constipation; fainting; fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat; fever; frequent or difficult urination; hallucinations; impulsive behavior or other unusual changes in behavior; jaw, neck, or muscle spasms; mental or mood changes (e.g., increased anxiety, mood swings, agitation, irritability, nervousness, restlessness); panic attacks; ringing in the ears; seizures; severe dizziness or drowsiness; sore throat; stomach pain; suicidal thinking or behavior; swelling of the testicles; tremor; trouble sleeping; trouble walking or keeping your balance; twitching of the face or tongue; uncontrolled movements of arms and legs or stiffness; unusual bleeding or bruising; worsening of depression; yellowing of the skin or eyes.
