Nizoral (Ketoconazole)
Drug Uses
Nizoral is intended to treat such fungal infections as candida infections of the skin and mouth, blastomycosis, histoplasmosis, coccidiomycosis as well as those infections that cannot be treated with griseofulvin.
How Taken
It is permitted to take the medicine while meal as well as before or after it. It is required for the stomach to be free from acidity, thus the medicine is recommended to be taken in 2 hours before taking any acid inhibitors (like Tagamet or Zantac). The medicine is prohibited to the patients with liver problems. Such kind of problems have following symptoms: unusual fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, yellowing of the skin (jaundice), dark urine, and pale stools. In case these symptoms appeared throughout the therapy period contact your doctor.
Missed Dose
In case you have missed to take the medicine do it at the moment you have remembered but skip it in case it is the time of your next dosage and follow your usual schedule.
Storage
Keep the Nizoral tablets at the temperature between 59-86 degrees F in a dry place. Keep the Nizoral shampoo at the temperature not exceeding 77 degrees F in a dark place.
Warnings Precautions
Let your doctor know about your diseases and allergies beforehand. It is recommended to take the medicine throughout the pregnancy period only at the worst with extreme caution. Contact your doctor before using the medicine throughout pregnancy and breast-feeding periods as it can be excreted into breast milk.
Possible Side Effects
Taking the medicine can lead to burning, stinging or redness when first applied to the skin. These side effects will disappear as soon as the organism will adjust to the drug. However contact you doctor in case these side effects last for a long period of time or you experience any other condition not mentioned here.
More Information
The medicine should be used only to treat conditions mentioned in this medication guide. It is prohibited to take the drug to treat any other infection or give it to somebody else. Other infections can require quite another treatment.
