Drug Uses
Levaquin is prescribed when such infections as sinuses, skin, lungs, ears, airways, bones, and joints, caused by susceptible bacteria take place. Moreover it is intended to treat urinary infections and prostatitis, infectious diarrheas, caused by E. coli, campylobacter jejuni, and shigella bacteria and various obstetric infections, including mastitis.
How Taken
It is prescribed to take the medicine one time per day. It should be taken 2 hours before or 2 hours after any antacid, or any supplement with iron, calcium, zinc, or magnesium as this minerals can prevent the absorption of the Levaquin.
Missed Dose
In case you have missed to take the medicine do it at the moment you have remembered but skip it in case it is the time of your next dosage and follow your usual schedule. You shouldn't use double dose simultaneously except the cases mentioned by your doctor.
Warnings Precautions
Taking the medicine can cause increased skin sensitivity to sunlight so limit the time spend under the sunlight or use clothes and sunscreens to prevent sunburns. Contact your doctor in case you have sunburn, redness, itching, rash, or swelling after being under the sunlight. In case you operate any machine use the medicine with caution as it can cause dizziness. It is not recommended to take the medicine during pregnancy and breast-feeding periods and to patients younger then 18 years old.
Possible Side Effects
Taking the medicine can cause such side effects as nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, headache, and constipation. Following side effects are not so frequent but also may occur: difficulty sleeping, dizziness, abdominal pain, rash, abdominal gas, and itching.

Don't take the medicine and contact your doctor or first medical aid at once in case you have an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives); seizures; confusion or hallucinations; irregular heartbeats, chest pain, or fainting; liver damage (yellowing of the skin or eyes, nausea, abdominal pain or discomfort, unusual bleeding or bruising, severe fatigue); or muscle or joint pain. Don't stop taking the medicine but consult your doctor in case you have nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation; headache or lightheadedness; drowsiness; insomnia; ringing in the ears; or increased sensitivity of the skin to sunlight. You can also experience other side effects not mentioned here. Contact your doctor in case you feel so.
