Drug Uses

Flagyl ER is intended when treating infections of the vagina, stomach, skin, joints, and respiratory tract as it works as antibiotic. However it won’t be effective against vaginal yeast infection. This medicine may also be used not only in the cases mentioned here.

How Taken

It is recommended to take the medicine 1 hour before or 2 hour after the meal. Follow your doctor directions when taking the Flagyl ER. You may feel yourself better even before the bacteria in your body are completely eliminated. This medicine is not recommended to use when treating any viral infection.

Missed Dose

In case you have missed to take the medicine do it at the moment you have remembered but skip it in case it is the time of your next dosage and follow your usual schedule. You shouldn’t use double dose simultaneously.

Storage

Keep the medicine at room temperature in a dark place.

Warnings Precautions

In case you are taking one of the following drugs consult your doctor before starting Flagyl ER therapy: cimetidine (Tagamet); seizure medication such as phenytoin (Dilantin) or phenobarbital (Luminal, Solfoton); a blood thinner such as warfarin (Coumadin); lithium (Lithobid, Eskalith, others); or disulfiram (Antabuse). In this case doctor may lower your dosage or forbid you to take the Flagyl ER. Other drugs can also negatively result when combinig them with Flagyl ER so talk to your doctor about other medicines, not listed here. Avoid drinking alcohol when treating by Flagyl ER. In case of taking alcohol such side effect as fast heartbeats, warmth or redness under your skin, tingly feeling, nausea, and vomiting may occur.

Possible Side Effects

Seek for medical aid in case you experience such symptoms of allergic as: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Contact your doctor immediately in case any of such side effects as: seizures (convulsions); fever, chills, body aches, sore throat, flu symptoms; numbness or tingling in your hands or feet; white patches or sores inside your mouth or on your lips; pain or burning when you urinate; or diarrhea that is watery or bloody. You shouldn’t stop taking the medicine in case you experience: nausea, stomach pain, diarrhea; - headache, dizziness, loss of balance; vaginal itching or discharge; dry mouth or unpleasant metallic taste; cough, sneezing, runny or stuffy nose; or swollen or sore tongue. But talk to your doctor in case you feel so.

More Information

Do not give this drug to the patients that have no directions to use the drug. The medicine should be taken only as prescribed. Store the Flagyl ER beyond the reach of children. Don’t forget to refresh your reserve before you use it.
