Drug Uses
Doxycycline is intended to cure the infections appeared due to certain bacteria. It is allowed to use the drug along with other medications to treat certain amoeba infections. The medication is also applied to avoid or slowdown the growth of the anthrax after the contact with infected person.
How Taken
Take the medication according to your doctor directions.
- The drug is to be taken orally during the meal as well as before or after it.
- The best effect of the drug will be reached by its regular use. Take the drug at the same time every day not to forget the time of your next dosage.
- Do not stop the therapy even you start feel quite better. Do not forget to take the drug.

Drug Class and Mechanism
Doxycycline is a tetracycline antibiotic. It works by slowing the growth of bacteria. Slowing bacteria growth allows the body's immune system to destroy the bacteria.
Missed Dose
In case you have missed to take the medicine take at the time you have remembered about it however skip it in case it is the time of your next dosage and follow your regular schedule. Do not take two doses simultaneously.
Storage
Keep the medication at the temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C) in closed original box. It is allowed to keep the drug at the temperature between 59 to 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) for a short period of time. Keep the drug at the cool, dry and dark place beyond the reach pf children and pets. Avoid keeping the drug in the bathroom.
Warnings Precautions
Don't take the medicine in case:
- you have allergic reaction to any of its components;
- you use acitretin, oral contraceptives, or penicillins (eg, amoxicillin).
Consult with your doctor in case any of the above mentioned points apply to you.
Note:
- Do not discontinue the therapy period. Not full treatment course may turn to be insufficient for clearing infection from your body. Another variant is that the infection may adjust somehow to this or other drugs and this will cause harder conditions caused by this infection in the future.
- Prolonged therapy period may lead to the second infection. Contact your doctor in case you think you have the second infection. He will probably change the medicine to treat you.
- Contact your doctor immediately in case you have stomach pain or cramps, severe diarrhea, or bloody stools. Do not take any medication to treat diarrhea without consulting with your doctor at first.
- The medicine may make your skin more sensitive to sunrays. Therefore avoid long being at the sun, sun lamps or tanning booths until you know your reaction to this drug. Wear protective clothes and sunglasses in case you will have to be outside for a prolonged period of time.
- The use of hormonal contraceptives along with Doxycycline may turn to be ineffective. Therefore use other forms of birth control (like condoms) to prevent the unwanted pregnancy.
- Your doctor may appoint you several lab tests throughout the therapy period to monitor the changes of your condition and any possible side effects. Follow all doctors' appointments.
- The medicine shouldn't be used for treating children younger than 8 years old. The use of the drug may cause tooth discoloration.
- The use of the medicine for treating pregnant women may harm the human fetus. Contact your doctor before taking the medicine throughout the pregnancy period. Avoid breast-feeding throughout the therapy period.
Possible Side Effects
Contact your doctor in case you experience following conditions for a long period of time:
- loss of appetite; nausea; sensitivity to sunlight; vomiting.
Contact your doctor immediately in case you have:
- severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue; unusual hoarseness); bloody stools; dark urine; decreased urination; fever, chills, or sore throat; severe diarrhea; severe or persistent headache; stomach pain or cramps; throat irritation; trouble swallowing; unusual bruising or bleeding; unusual tiredness; vaginal irritation or discharge; vision changes; yellowing of the skin or eyes.
