Drug Uses
Desyrel is intended to treat depression, but the medicine can also be used as sedative or along with other medications to treat psychiatric conditions other depression and drug withdrawal.
How Taken
The adult dosage of the medicine when treating depression is 150-600 mg daily. The recommended dose to start treating is 150 mg daily. The medicine is taken in one or several doses that can be increased before going to bed. The effect of the medication can show after several weeks of the therapy. Dosage is commonly increased step by step to reach the optimal amount. However debilitated patients and patients in ages may be prescribed lower dosage. It is recommended to take the medicine after the meal to prevent dizziness. Moreover meal also increases the amount of the medication accepted by the organism.
Missed Dose
In case you have missed to take the medicine do it at the moment you have remembered but skip it in case it is the time of your next dosage and follow your usual schedule. You shouldn’t use double dose simultaneously.
Storage
Keep the medicine at the room temperature between 15-30 degrees C (59-86 degrees F).
Warnings Precautions
Take the medicine with caution in case operating any machinery. Taking the medicine can cause dizziness or drowsiness, avoid operating any machinery in case you have these side effects. These effects are likely to occur especially when sitting or lying. Avoid sharp movements to prevent dizziness. Alcohol may amplify side effects of the medicine, it is recommended to drink alcohol with caution throughout the therapy period. It is known studied yet if the medicine can affect the human fetus. Taking medicine throughout pregnancy period may be prescribed in case the doctor sees that the effects of the treatment exceed potential risks. The medicine is also excreted into the breast milk, therefore it is recommended to prescribe the medicine with caution to women throughout breast-feeding periods.
Possible Side Effects
Taking the medicine can cause such common side effects as: nausea, dizziness, insomnia, agitation, tiredness, dry mouth, constipation, lightheadedness, headache, low blood pressure, blurred vision, and confusion. Medicine can also cause priapism (clitoral priapism also) that is the painful erections of penis (or clitoris). Priapism may sometimes lead to erectile dysfunction or impotence. Doctor should consult the patient of this possible side effect and recommend to stop treating in cast such effect takes place. Taking the medicine can also impact on ejaculation, orgasm and libido.
More Information
In case you have any of the side effects below, do not take the medicine and contact your doctor at once: an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives); a prolonged (4 hours or longer), painful, or inappropriate erection; or an irregular heartbeat or chest pains. However, following side effect are not so dangerous and more likely to happen: dizziness or drowsiness; headache; insomnia or vivid dreams; dry mouth, upset stomach, nausea, or vomiting; diarrhea or constipation; tremors (shaking); or blurred vision. Do not stop the therapy and contact your doctor in case any of these apply to you. In case you experience any other side effect not mentioned here contact you doctor.
