Drug Uses
Decadron is intended to treat conditions corresponded to decreased adrenal gland function as well as severe inflammation caused by such conditions as severe asthma, severe allergies, rheumatoid arthritis, ulcerative colitis, certain blood disorders, lupus, multiple sclerosis, and certain eye and skin conditions. The drug may also be used to treat other conditions in accordance to your doctor directions.

Drug Class and Mechanism
Decadron is a corticosteroid. It works by decreasing or preventing tissues from responding to inflammation. It also modifies the body's response to certain immune stimulation.
Missed Dose
In case you have forgotten to take the drug do it at the moment you have remembered about it however skip it in case it is the time for your next dosage and follow your usual schedule. Avoid taking two doses simultaneously.
Storage
Keep the drug at the temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C) in cool, dry and dark place beyond the reach of children and pets.
Warnings Precautions
Don't take the drug in case:
- you have any allergic reaction to any component of the drug;
- you have a systemic fungal infection;
- you are using mifepristone.
Contact your doctor in case you experience any of the above mentioned conditions.
Note:
- Taking the drug may decrease your immunity. Don't contact with people experiencing colds or infections. Let your doctor know that you experience any symptoms of infection like: fever, sore throat, rash, or chills.
- Let your doctor or dentist know about your Decadron therapy before you will get any medical or dental care.
- Taking the drug may increase your blood pressure, potassium loss as well as salt and water retention. You may be possibly have to limit your salt consumption and start taking calcium supplements.
- Using the drug may lead to the loss of calcium and contribute to osteoporosis development. Take enough calcium and vitamin D supplements.
- Taking the drug may change the blood sugar level in diabetes patients. Thus monitor your blood sugar level. Contact your doctor before you will change you diabetes medication dosage.
- The medication should be used with caution in children, as they be more sensitive to its side effects.
- Corticosteroids may change the growth rate when using the drug to treat children and teenagers. They may need to be appointed for regular growth checks.
- It is not clear whether the drug may harm the human fetus. Thus contact your doctor in case oyu became pregnant throughout therapy period. The medication appears in the breast milk. Therefore avoid breast-feeding throughout therapy period.
Possible Side Effects
Contact your doctor in case you experience any of the following side effects:
- mild nausea or vomiting.
Contact your doctor immediately in case you have:
- severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); appetite loss; black, tarry stools; changes in menstrual periods; convulsions; depression; diarrhea; dizziness; exaggerated sense of well-being; fever; general body discomfort; headache; increased pressure in the eye; joint or muscle pain; mood swings; muscle weakness; personality changes; prolonged sore throat, cold, or fever; puffing of the face; severe nausea or vomiting; swelling of feet or legs; unusual weight gain; vomiting material that looks like coffee grounds; weakness; weight loss.
