Drug Uses
Celexa is used for treating depression. However doctor may prescribe the medicine to treat several other conditions.
How Taken
Follow your doctor prescriptions when taking the medicine. Read the dosing information on the label.
- There is an Medication Guide applied to the medicine. Read it before taking the medicine and each time you refill you drug supply.
- It is permitted to take the medicine during the meal as well as before or after it.
- Your condition will become better after 1-4 weeks of the therapy. However do not stop the therapy after your symptoms became better.
- Your doctor will decrease the dosage for you gradually in case there is a need to stop treating.
- Avoid missing your scheduled dosage.
Missed Dose
In case you have missed to take the medicine do it at the moment you have remembered but skip it in case it is the time of your next dosage and follow your usual schedule. You shouldn’t use double dose simultaneously.
Storage
Keep the medicine at the room temperature at the dry and dark place beyond the reach of the children.
Warnings Precautions
Contact your doctor and don’t take the medicine in case:
- you have allergic reaction to any component of the medicine
- you use or used monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor (eg, phenelzine) or St. John's wort during the last 2 weeks
- you are taking such medicines as astemizole, pimozide, dexfenfluramine, fenfluramine, phenothiazines (eg, thioridazine), sibutramine, or terfenadine.
Note:
- Avoid operating any machinery until you are not aware of your organism reaction to the medication.
- Taking other medicines or drinking alcohol throughout the therapy period may decrease your ability to drive or operate any other machinery.
- Contact your doctor at once in case your condition becomes worse.
- Medicine can increase the effect of the alcohol and anti-depressants. Consult your doctor in case you are not sure which medicines are anti-depressants.
- It is recommended to monitor your condition in the beginning of the therapy and after each changes of dosage.
- Several tests may be required to check your condition during the therapy. Follow your doctor and lab appointments.
- It is not recommended to use Celexa for treating children.
- The medicine may be harmful for human fetus. Therefore, contact your doctor before taking the medicine throughout the pregnancy period. In case you are pregnant consult with your doctor an opportunity of decreasing your dosage throughout the last trimester of the pregnancy period. Do not take the medicine during the breast-feeding period.
Possible Side Effects
Contact your doctor in case you experience any of the followings side effects for a long period of time:
- change in taste; decreased menstrual flow or painful periods; diarrhea; dry mouth; ejaculation disorder; impotence; increased sweating; loss of appetite; nausea; runny nose; sinus inflammation; tiredness; tremor; upset stomach; weight loss or gain.
Contact your doctor at once in case you have:
- severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); anxiety; cold sweat; confusion; dizziness; fatigue; hostility; impulsiveness; irritability; lack of concern; mania; mental/mood changes; panic attacks; restlessness; seizures; shakiness; sleeplessness; sore throat or fever; suicidal thoughts or behaviors; vision changes; worsening of depression.
More Information
The medicine should be used only by the patients with corresponding prescriptions. Do not give the medicine to those who don’t have such prescriptions.
