Drug Uses
Atarax is intended to treat anxiety, sedation caused by general anesthesia, some allergic reactions. Your doctor may also prescribe the medicine to treat some other conditions.
How Taken
Follow your doctor directions when taking the medidicne.
- It is recommended to take the medicine orally during meal as well as before or after it. In case you have stomach upsets take the medicine only while meal.
- Take the medicine whole without chewing or crushing it before swallowing.
- Do not stop taking the medicine in case you feel better. Take the medicine at the same time each day to avoid missing doses.
Contact your doctor in case you are not sure about how to take the medicine.
Missed Dose
In case you have missed to take the medicine do it at the moment you have remembered but skip it in case it is the time of your next dosage and follow your usual schedule. You shouldn’t use double dose simultaneously.
Storage
Keep the medicine at the temperature between 59 and 77 degrees F (15 and 25 degrees C) at the cool, dry and dark place beyond the reach of the children and pets. Avoid keeping the drug in the bathroom.
Warnings Precautions
Contact you doctor and do not take the medicine in case:
- you have allergic reactions to any component of the medicine
- you use sodium oxybate (GHB)
- you are in first 3 month of your pregnancy period.
Note:
- Avoid operating any machinery in case you are not aware of your reaction to the medicine.
- Do not drink alcohol and take any other medicines that can lead to drowsiness. Taking Atarax along with such medicines can increase those effects. Consult with your doctor about medicines that can cause drowsiness.
- Patients in ages should use the drug with caution as it they are more sensitive to the medicine’s effects.
- It is not recommended to treat newborns with the medicine as it is not studied yet how the drug can affect the newborns.
- Do not take the medicine throughout first 3 months of the pregnancy period and throughout breast feeding period.
Possible Side Effects
Taking the medicine can lead to severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); involuntary movements.

Contact your doctor in case you experience drowsiness and/or dry mouth for a long period of time.
