Drug Uses
Aricept is intended to treat different types of demetia (from mild to moderate) due to Alzheimer disease.
How Taken
Take the drug in accordance with your doctor’s prescriptions.
- The drug should be taken orally throughout the meal as well as before or after it.
- It is recommended to take the drug before going to bed unless your doctor prescribed other dosage schedule.
- Don’t stop treatment even your condition improves. Avoid missing the doses.

Drug Class and Mechanism
Aricept is a cholinesterase inhibitor. It works by increasing acetylcholine in the brain, which may help to improve memory and thinking ability.
Missed Dose
In case you have missed to take the drug do it at the moment you remembered about it, however skip it in case it is the time for your next dosage and follow your regular schedule. Avoid taking two doses simultaneously.
Storage
Keep the medication at the temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) in a cool, dry and dark place beyond the reach of children and pets. Avoid keeping the drug in the bathroom.
Warnings Precautions
Don’t take the medication in case:
- You have allergic reaction to any of its components or to piperdine derivatives (like cyproheptadine).
Contact your doctor in case you experience any of the above mentioned conditions.
Note:
- Taking the medication may cause such side effects as drowsiness, dizziness, or lightheadedness hat can be increased by the intake of he alcohol or other medication. Thus take the drug with caution and avoid operating any machinery until you are aware of your body reaction to the drug.
- Let your doctor or dentist know in advance that your are taking Aricept before you get any aid from them.
- Children shouldn’t use the drug, as it is not studied yet whether it is safe and effective for them or not.
- Contact your doctor before taking the medication throughout pregnancy and breast-feeding periods.
Possible Side Effects
Contact your doctor in case you experience any of the following side effects:
- abnormal dreams; diarrhea; dizziness; drowsiness; loss of appetite; muscle cramps; nausea; sleeplessness; tiredness; vomiting; weight loss.
Contact your doctor immediately in case you have such side effects as:
- severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); black or bloody stools; chest pain; depression; fainting; fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat; loss of bowel or bladder control; seizures; tremor; trouble urinating; unsteadiness; unusual mental or mood changes; vision changes; vomit that contains blood or looks like coffee grounds.
More Information
Only the patients with corresponding prescriptions should use the drug. Avoid sharing it with anyone else. Contact your doctor in case your condition remains the same or getting worse.
